Insulating (Dynamat) the Inside of the Doors (1967 Mustang)

This was a fairly simple process, but again the only posts I found where "just do it" with no useful instructions.

I used Dynamat 10435 14.75 x 12 inches, 4 sheets per box. using 12 inch width I was able to use 3 strips (front to back) with only a small gap that needed to be filled in the end. So here are my quick tips to help you make this process easier.

The doors have limited access space so cover the floor or something easier to work with first to get some practice with the Dynamat.

Wear long sleeves as you'll be straining to reach into the doors and the metal will cut you. Gloves for the same reason if you're comfortable with them, but you have to do a lot of finger work.

I decided to not pull the glass out of the door because it only gives slightly large access. Instead roll the window all the way up. Also feel around inside to make sure you have a full surface to mount to. Do what you can to clean the inside of the door a day before and allow it to dry completely.

There is a channel at the bottom of the door with drain holes cut in it, be sure to not block these drain holes. I chose to not cover this very bottom 1 inch or so channel, but did cover both sides of it up.

Start placing the first sheets all the way inside the door towards the hinges, then put a second sheet next to the first, then the thirst as close to the door latch as possible so the area you're patching is in front of the door cutouts to make the patches easier to fit.

Here are the areas you'll be covering, going around things like door handles and hinges.

Start by cutting three 24 inch strips, for the outside of the door panels.

Before you put them inside the door peel back your starting edge up to about 6 inches as they are sometimes hard to start and you won't have room once it's inside the door. Roll up the sheet as loosely as possible, but small enough to fit through the big hole in the door and feed it through and unroll it and test the fit one last time. Set the bottom of the sheet on the bottom of the drain channel, but with it only covering the side of the channel and push it down all the way across and start working it out to the door. Slowly unpeel and work the sheet all the way from the bottom of the channel up the door to in front of the window opening. When you get to the third sheet that goes toward the door latch, make sure you feel for and make space for the outside door handle screws.

After all three sheets are placed this is the only gap that was left that I had to fill. Cut out sheets for the bottom inside of your door first (to save on materials), then come back and fill in this small gap.

Cut 8 inch sheets to place between the same bottom drain panel coming up the inside of the door stopping just before the cutout access holes in the door. Use the same order, first should go all the way inside the door as close to the hinges as you can get it, but this one especially make sure you don't accidently attach it to any of the window hardware. put the second strip next to it and third all the way towards the door latch and fill the small area between the two with strip and you're done!
